I first heard about “Orange” last year reading the Twits of Sam Luce, Jonthan Cliff, Kenny Conley, Gina McClain and Jim Wideman. I knew that I wanted to go next year (that would be this year). A friend and co-creator of this company Keith Glines told me he heard about Orange at Catlyst last year and wanted to go also. So I was pumped about “Orange Week” from great bloggers like those above. The more I read the more excited I am. The funds will be a challenge for Keith and I, but I think I can get at least $500 for a kidney on the black market. So we will be there!
I love the idea of Orange and the ReThink team. I think this is the future of the “church” if not it will be the demise of the “church”. I do feel it is a huge task and it must start with changing the mindset for pastors (senior, family, community, youth and children’s). Let me explain. I grew up Church of God (Cleveland, TN), I pastored in a COG, I’m licensed with COG. I know COG. In my time I have never saw a senior pastor stay at a church for more than 7 year constitutively, there in lies the problem. Senior pastors typically only last for a few years, they want to be there forever but have accepted the idea that they will only be there for a few years. Same with youth and children’s pastors, only less time. So the idea of ministering to someone there whole life does not hit the radar, although most of the congregates will be at that church for most of their life. This may not be typical for every area but here in the deep south it rings true. Changing the hearts and minds of pastors to think long term or “life term” if you will is the challenge. I myself have now stared to ponder this concept and ways that I can encourage it among pastors. I am one of many in the sea of Children’s Ministry bloggers out there and no where the best, YET!! I know I will improve God told me so!
